Sometimes, it really is a matter of perspective.
The work of artist M. C. Escher was the inspiration behind this rad stairwell mural in Sydney, which meant being able to play with architecture, geometry and optical illusion.
With the smell of aerosol in the air and surrounded by friends, it was not hard to get stuck into creating intricate shapes for this piece. The simple palette of greys lent itself well to the dance of light and shadow so often found in Escher’s work too.
Really, the biggest challenge was getting a good shot of the entire length of the feature wall in such a narrow space. Thank god for fish eye lenses!
At the end of the day, we were all happy with the end result. More importantly, so were the folks who worked in the building and really, that’s what it’s all about.
Thanks to UD3 for getting me in on this and shoutout to Apeseven, Rilla and Grizzle for the good times
